Toyota conquers Antarctic in jet-fueled Hilux pickups

Toyota conquers Antarctic in jet-fueled Hilux pickups

Toyota has just wrapped up another impressive Antarctic expedition, this time traversing over 43,500 miles in the span of four months. In the process, the company says it snagged a new world record with three specially-prepared Hilux pickup trucks with each covering 5,903 miles of the frozen continent. Iceland-based Arctic Trucks handled converting the pickups for their stint in the cold, and while the alterations included creating at least two 6×6 versions, the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engines had to be reworked to consume Jet A-1 fuel. In the low temperatures of the Antarctic, standard diesel would simply turn to jelly.

Sprint LG Optimus S Android 2.3 Gingerbread update to roll out (again) starting on April 4

Sprint LG Optimus S Android 2.3 Gingerbread update to roll out (again) starting on April 4

If you own an LG Optimus S, be happy. You're about to receive a pretty big software update. No, it's not Ice Cream Sandwich. That one your phone will almost certainly never get (officially, at least). No, this is good old Android Gingerbread we're talking about.

Sure, it may already be obsolete, but then again the Android 2.2 Froyo that's currently powering your Optimus S is even more so. Which makes this a welcome update, despite the fact that it should have happened one year ago.

Speaking of that, Sprint actually started rolling this out in September. Yes, September 2011.

One Sense headphones concept looks outrageous

One Sense headphones concept looks outrageous

We've seen a lot of concept headphone designs in the past although we have to admit that this one takes the cake, perhaps drawing inspiration from sci-fi movies or Lady Gaga's outrageous wardrobe. In any case, the One Sense concept headphones have been designed in such a way that aims to discourage other people from interrupting your listening session. Designed by Joe Doucet, the headphones not only block off the sights and sounds of our world to give us some alone time, but with the spikes and the color red are apparently drawn from nature's defense and warning, giving a passerby the impression that we are not to be disturbed.

Zite, my new (co-)favorite reading app

Zite, my new (co-)favorite reading app

I love to read. Books, not that much (though I’m really enjoying Jonah Lerner’s Imagine) but I can spend countless hours just bouncing around the internet, following a ton of blogs plus or just ending up somewhere randomly. Hence, it’s no real surprise that my favorite app on my tablet is Pulse. As I explained in my introductory post when I first joined Phandroid

I love the UI, and the effort that they’re putting into Pulse Me such as synchronizing sources across devices and the desktop browser extension makes it stand out.

And I’m yet to find a quality competitor for it.
