Varley's evR450 all-electric supercar set to hit Australian roads next year

As Autoblog Green points out, Australia's Varley Electric Vehicles is known more for bulky industrial vehicles than high-end sports cars, but the company's now looking to change that perception with its new all-electric evR450 supercar. While it'll no doubt turn a few heads simply standing still, it also looks to measure up reasonably well under the hood, boasting a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour (or 124 MPH) and a zero to 100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds.

Canalys: HTC nips Apple, Samsung to become top smartphone vendor in US for Q3 2011

Boo. No, that's not your doorbell ringing again, that's HTC popping out of nowhere in order to toss a Nah-nah-nah-boo-boo in the direction of Samsung and Apple. Just days after Strategy Analytics published a global smartphone shipment report for Q3 2011, Canalys - another formidable name in the sector - has pushed out a report of its own. Not surprisingly, the global figures line up almost precisely with what we'd already heard, with Samsung's Q3 numbers rising above those from Apple, Nokia and the rest of the industry. The difference here, however, is the focal point on the US of A.

Microsoft Celebrates Kinect's First Birthday, Shows How Awesome Kinect Has Become!

In honor of the same, Microsoft has just released a video to celebrate its birthday. It's precise yet reveals a lot. Though we believe you are already familiar with the Kinect, the video is absolutely enough as a quick yet effective insight into what Kinect is and how it has become one of the most coveted gaming accessories around the globe.
It is, we believe, one of the most pivotal accessory of the future gaming industry. But we must also admit, it's not just limited to gaming (as many would presume). But, the device has touched technology in more ways than we have imagined.

AMD Bulldozer breaks own world record, overclocked to 8.46GHz

Advanced Micro Devices is probably feeling a bit silly right about now. To show off how powerful the Bulldozer chip really is, it drafted in the world's most elite overclockers, set them up in a room with whatever was required (including a vat of liquid helium) and broke the chip-speed world record. With a verified speed of 8.429GHz, the company collected its Guinness world record and sat back, thinking that no one could ever best it.

ZTE becomes world's fourth largest mobile phone vendor

IDC's latest report on global mobile phone shipments bring to light some interesting things. Mostly it's the rise of the Chinese company ZTE to the No. 4 spot in global mobile phone shipments, overtaking Apple in the process. This promotion was brought on by the staggering 57.9% jump in growth in shipments compared to last year. Meanwhile, Nokia, Samsung and LG continue to hold on to their No. 1, 2 and 3 spots respectively.

ZTE is not the only one experiencing growth. At 23.0%, Samsung saw the second highest growth compared to 2010 while Apple saw a 21.3% growth. Nokia and LG, however, weren't so lucky.

New high-precision eye surgery robot helps doctors stay sharp

New high-precision eye surgery robot helps doctors stay sharp

A researcher at the Netherland's University of Technology has invented a new type of eye surgery robot designed to steady the ophthalmologist's hands and minimize error - always a good thing when it comes to having needles and knives near your peepers. Kind of like an Igor to a mad scientist, the robot is considered a "slave" to its "master" doctor, who controls the automaton's arms using two joysticks. The doctor is still in charge of the cuts, but the technology makes sure the MD jabs that needle in at the exact same entry point each time without shaking to minimize ocular marring.

In the immortal words of Ashford and Simpson, the Porsche-designed Blackberry is h-h-h-h-hot. What would you get if you took a Motorola RAZR (the original), a BlackBerry and a mid-1980s Bang and Olufsen stereo, tossed them in a blender and poured the results to set in a shallow cake tin. You'd get the Porsche Design P'9981 Smartphone you see above.
Specs-wise, the phone doesn't do anything special. It simply checks the boxes required of a modern mobile telephone: 1.2GHz processor, 720p video camera, 8GB storage, 5MP stills camera and a microSD card slot for expansion.
