Sony brings AOSP Android 4.4 to Xperia L

A Google Play Edition of the Xperia Z Ultra is nice and all, but what about stock Android for folks that already own a Sony handset. Sony has done a pretty good job with their AOSP for Xperia program, providing builds of unadulterated Android for a variety of devices. The latest is the Sony Xperia L. The Xperia L isn't quite the device that a member of the Z series is. The handset sports a 4.3-inch display a 1GHz dual-core CPU. But owners can now install a fresh build of Android 4.4 to add a bit of life to the little guy.

We spend a lot of time tinkering away on our smartphones, when in reality perhaps our smartphones should be working for us. We've seen attempts by developers to create smarter apps, such as IFTTT for the iPhone, and Chameleon launcher for Android devices, and now looking to help users create a more seamless user experience, the Cover lock screen app has been launched in open beta. The app has been around for a while now, but previously it was limited to a closed beta where not everyone could download the app just yet.

NPD: Xbox One Won First Round Of Sales Against PS4 In Australia

Both the Sony PS4 and Microsoft's Xbox One seem to be tangled in a bitter fight with one another, and there will be different victors in various regions around the world. What I can say about the Xbox One is this, in Australia, it seemed to have emerge as the victor in the first sales round against the PS4. This particular bit of information was gleaned from the statistics department of retail sales research firm NPD Group, where they claimed that 65,917 units of the Xbox One console actually moved within its first three days in Australia, which is a whole lot less than the 1 million figure we saw Stateside.

Samsung Co-CEO Acknowledges Possibility Of Flexible TVs

When it comes to flexible display technology, companies such as Samsung probably come to mind. This is thanks to the South Korean tech giant's demonstration of the Youm technology earlier this year, not to mention the release of the Galaxy Round, the world's first smartphone with a flexible display. Recently there have also been talks about a flexible tablet, and also the possibility of a flexible OLED TV which has been rumored for unveiling at CES 2014. Well the semi-good news is that the idea of a flexible OLED TV might not be so far-fetched, as Samsung's co-CEO, Boo-keun Yoon, acknowledged that devices like that could be a possibility.

We have heard complaints in the past about how smartphones, like the iPhone, are so expensive. Granted they are pretty pricey, but they look almost cheap by comparison when compared to devices like the one pictured above. The rather gaudy looking piece of hardware is an Android smartphone that has been designed by Swiss designer, Alessandro Savelli. There will be a few variations of this phone, all made from luxury materials, but the one pictured above features an 18-carat rose gold casing, along with some precision stones, all of which will set you back £35,000 which is roughly $57,000 after conversion.

Buyer beware should be the mantra for anyone who is about to part with his or her hard earned money, but there is also another lesson to be learned here – sometimes, we would not expect the craziest thing to happen, such as it did to Monica Hall. Hall dropped by her local AT&T store in order to purchase a hot selling and spanking new iPad Air on November 15th in Mesquite, Texas. After arriving home with her new purchase, she realized she could not load apps on it, or to lock it.

Rumored LG V510 could be a Nexus tablet

We've been wondering what the next Nexus Tablet would end up being. Google has yet to reveal a new 10-inch offering to replace the Samsung-made Nexus 10, so we were starting to worry that they wouldn't be bringing us a bigger tablet at all. Fortunately, a glimmer of light exists at the end of the tunnel. That light comes by way of @evleaks, who suggests we should be seeing an LG-made Nexus tablet at some point in the future.
The tablet's model number is tipped to be the V510, with the most popular guess being that this will debut as an 8-inch device. That'd be a tad weird considering the ASUS-made Nexus 7 isn't that much smaller.

When the FIA revealed the final calendar for the 2014 Formula One World Championship, it was lacking in one specific area: namely, the proposed Grand Prix of America that was set to take place in New Jersey just across the river from Manhattan did not make the cut. But the organizers behind the race insist that it has not been canceled – merely postponed. In a statement released hot on the heels of the FIA's decision, GP America chairman Leo Hindery, Jr., noted that the setbacks were primarily financial.

The update will arrive as two parts, and, when completed, will implement HTC Sense 5 and a host of features that have so far been exclusive to the company's One lineup. Droid DNA owners will have new features like BlinkFeed and quick settings to toy around with in the new version of Sense. The latest version of HTC's customized Android interface is less obtrusive  than what currently features on the Verizon handset. Users can expect this to carryover into updated Sense apps including the calendar, dialer, gallery, and contacts list.

Infiniti Q50 steer-by-wire system took 10 years to develop (video)

Infiniti's Direct Adaptive Steering (DAS) is quite a novelty - the system employs no physical connection between the steering wheel and the front wheels under normal circumstances and instead relies on a computer, clutch and steering-angle actuator to guide vehicles down the road with input from the driver. In our First Drive review of a 2014 Infiniti Q50 equipped with the system, we weren't overly impressed by the artificial feedback. But we can't help but be impressed with how long Infiniti spent on its development: a full 10 years, according to Autoline Daily in the video report below.

If you are an avid fan of Killzone Shadow Fall just as it is, you might not want to download and install any more patches. After all, why bother to change a winning formula. It is just not done for sure, and you know what they say about something not being broke – there is absolutely no point at all in fixing it.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for Verizon drops to $170

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for Verizon drops to $170

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 launched on Verizon in the US early last month on $300 with contract. In the spirit of Black Friday, the price of the flagship phablet has dropped to $170 on the same deals. The $170 price comes from Amazon and doesnÂ't seem to be a part of the etailer's Black Friday promotions (meaning it should be available even after today). This price is for new Verizon accounts.

Upgraders will have to pay a bit more - $200. The Galaxy Note 3 is also available from Verizon's own site at that price.

For comparison, the Note 3 is $220 with a contract with Sprint for new accounts and $300 for upgrades.

US Military Caught Pirating Software, To Pay $50 Million In Fines

US Military Caught Pirating Software, To Pay $50 Million In Fines

Crime does not pay, and certainly it is a crime to steal something that does not belong to you in the first place. Software piracy is a very big issue that needs to be tackled, and Apptricity, the maker of logistics software that is used to track down the location of soldiers as well as shipments in critical missions, has decided to bring the US Government to court after the defaulted on software license fees. This means that the US military had been running on unlicensed copies of the software, which would be tantamount to piracy – and the kicker is this – it has been going on for nearly 10 years.

Man Throws Away Hard Drive With More Than 7,500 Bitcoins Within

Bitcoin, the virtual currency that has gained plenty of attention in recent times, is back in the news, but with a rather unfortunate twist to it. No, I am not referring to its value dropping to less than a dollar, but rather, one man who has spent a few years (since 2009) to mine more than 7,500 Bitcoins, might now be able to receive a single cent for all his effort. According to The Guardian, a certain James Howells of Wales claimed that he threw away an unwanted hard drive which was first installed in a Dell notebook four years back, and that notebook's main purpose was to mine Bitcoins.

2003-2004 Isuzu SUVs recalled for suspension corossion woes

2003-2004 Isuzu SUVs recalled for suspension corossion woes

Here's a brand we haven't written about in some time. Isuzu is recalling 8,816 2003 Rodeo Sports and 2003 to 2004 Rodeo and Axiom models that are registered in just about any state that uses salt on winter roads. That means Isuzu owners in states as far east as Maine, as far south as Kentucky and as far west as Minnesota will need to report in with their vehicles for repairs. This recall follows a previous corrosion-related issue for 2002 Axioms and Rodeos.
The problem, which is no doubt exacerbated by road salt, has to do with corrosion around the forward mounting point for the lower link of the rear suspension.

AT&T Galaxy S4's Android 4.3 upgrade resumes rolling out; Galaxy Gear update going out, too

AT&T was one of the first carriers to get Android 4.3 for the Samsung Galaxy S4, which meant it was also the first carrier to notice a big issue with the OTA upgrade. The carrier had to suspend rollouts until Samsung got the issue fixed, but they're starting to roll it back out now that things are all keen and peachy. This upgrade will bring the premium suite features all other 4.3 Samsung devices have gotten, including improved camera features, Samsung Knox security and more. Alongside all that is also Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watch compatibility.

It was recently confirmed by China's official state news agency that China Mobile is going to switch on its commercial 4G service on December 18th. On that day it will also finally launch the new iPhones, over the past few months it has been rumored quite a few times that China Mobile is going to carry both iPhones this year. Oppo R827T and ZTE Grand S II get certified in China

Two yet unofficial phones have hit the Chinese wireless authority Tenaa for certification – a mid-range smartphone from Oppo and one phablet from ZTE. The Oppo R827T, previously thought to be Oppo Find 5 Mini, doesnÂ't quite live up to the "mini" part though, nor the "5". It has a 4.7" screen with qHD resolution (540 x 960) and measures 137 x 68 x 7.75mm. The weight is 128g.

The Oppo R827T will be powered by a MediaTek MT6589 chipset (quad-core Cortex-A7 at 1.2GHz) with 1GB RAM.
