Toilet paper dispenser prints tweets and RSS feeds

Wiping your rear end after letting loose some logs with good quality toilet paper might be a pleasant experience for most of us, but do you know that it is far more environmentally friendly if you had a pipe and hose to clean up after yourself. Well, for those who think that they cannot live with toilet paper and do not think twice about the environment, here is a DIY toilet paper dispenser that actually prints out tweets or RSS feeds. Seems to be the perfect device if you cannot seem to pry yourself away from the computer even when you need to answer nature's call, and yet do not want to carry your tablet or smartphone to the loo.

Samsung Galaxy S2 HD and Galaxy S2 LTE Announced!

These two smartphones naturally run Google's Android OS and are genetically similar to the profoundly popular Galaxy S2 Android phone. The immediately notable difference between the two is the "HD" branding and of course, LTE support. The Galaxy S2 HD Android phone comes with a HD display supporting 1280x720p resolution (second phone after Galaxy Note to gain this display res.) natively on the giant 4.65" capacitive multi-touch display.

ISIS Adds LG, Motorola, HTC, Samsung and Sony Ericsson to List of Supporters for NFC-Based Mobile Payments

ISIS – the mobile payment NFC-based joint venture between T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon – have added a stable of new OEMs to the list of those who will implement ISIS technology into their future NFC-enabled phones. Even with how exciting Google Wallet looks, ISIS seems to be generating a ton of carrier and OEM support. The thing is we don’t know what ISIS has been working on behind the scenes as they haven’t come forth with any details. The press release doesn’t mention whether or not these deals are exclusive so this doesn’t mean Google Wallet is ruled out on any of these manufacturers’ phones.

Sprint stops LG Optimus S Gingerbread update after running into issues

If you happen to be rocking to the LG Optimus S from Sprint, surely you were excited when you realized that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update was made available to the smartphone already – only to be hit with a whammy of a news byte as more than just a handful of Optimus S owners complained about the update being gimped, causing nothing but trouble with the Optimus S. Having said that, Sprint has been duly notified by a growing number of disgruntled customers, and decided to put their foot down by halting the update, hoping to get their engineers working furiously to fix whatever issues that are connected to the Gingerbread release.

Who would have thought that the McDonald's drive-thru would actually see a video game icon (or a fan who is crazy enough) to pick up his meal in a go-kart. Yes sir, the video after the jump that shows off a presumably hungry Halo ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) cozy up behind a car, braving traffic as well as fumes from his relatively close-to-ground position.

Toshiba announces 7-inch Thrive tablet, we go hands-on (video)

It looks like the AT200 isn't the only Toshiba tablet poised to land in time for the holidays. The company just announced the Thrive 7", a (surprise!) 7-inch version of the original. Like its big brother, it runs on Tegra 2 and packs twin 5 MP / 2 MP cameras, though this time around that textured, rubberized back isn't removable, and the rear-facing camera comes paired with an LED flash. As you'd expect, in exchange for a smaller form factor (0.88 pounds, half an inch thick), you'll be giving up the full-sized ports that made the original so unique.

Rumor: Sprint Launching LTE Network Early 2012

CNET says they've heard it on great authority (the whole “people familiar with the situation” spiel) that Sprint will be launching an LTE network early 2012. This is likely what Sprint is gearing up to announce sometime this fall as they did confirm major network announcements would be coming soon. It's a logical step forward for Sprint after the failed WiMax deployment, but the next hurdle they must get over after launching this LTE network is deciding how to handle customers with WiMax devices.

Officially confirmed: iPhone 5 comes on October 4th

That's that then - the invitations have been sent and it has been officially confirmed that we are just a week away from seeing the next iPhone. The announcement will take place next Tuesday in a rather unusual place - the Apple campus in Cupertino. Normally those things happen in other venues in San Francisco, but this time Apple will be inviting journalists to its home. There's an outside chance that this is done so they can make LTE demonstrations, without depending on the (still rather spotty) LTE coverage.

GM plants begin ratifying new UAW deal, 15 so far

General Motors manufacturing facilities around the country have begun ratifying the tentative labor agreement between the automaker and the United Auto Workers. Both Flint and Lansing were the first plants to vote for the new deal over the weekend, though others are beginning to fall in line, including the St. Louis-area plant in Wentzville, which has been earmarked for a $380M investment to help build a new mid-size pickup, along with Spring Hill, Tennessee, former home of the now defunct Saturn brand. A total of 48,500 GM workers are expected to vote on the measure by the time the issue comes to a close.

AT&T vacation blackout points to mid-October iPhone launch; placeholders hit inventory system

With reports circling that Apple's next iPhone is due to launch on October 14th, BGR has received new information from a trusted AT&T source that seems to confirm a mid-October launch. AT&T has started to block all employee vacation requests for the first two weeks of October in order to have “all hands on deck.” Our source clarified that the dates are the first two works weeks starting on Monday, October 3rd and ending on Friday, October 14th. Our source also says it is normal for AT&T to extend a vacation blackout after it's in place, or after an actual launch date is announced. More details after the break.

China readies its own space station module for launch

Presumably feeling a little left out after being turned down from the global love-in that is the International Space Station, China's decided to go it alone. The ever-expanding nation will be ready to launch the first module of it's very own space station, the Tiangong (Heavenly Palace), by the end of this month. The initial launch will be unmanned, delivering an 8.5-ton module ready for docking practise and other interactions with three more spacecraft that are planned to join it later this year.

Folding E-Bike Concept Is About to Get Real

Gabriel Wartofsky's e-bike exist in real life. You know all those concept bikes we see which look like they'd break in two as soon as you jump on them. And how it doesn't matter anyway, as they'll never make it outside of a CAD rendering. Well, Gabriel Wartofsky's e-bike is not one of those concepts. Not only did he come up with a plausible-looking design, but he managed to get it funded already on Kickstarter.

Strength-wise, the bike looks good, sharing the fat tubes and chunky joints of the super-tough (although slightly wobbly) Brompton. The fold, too, is smart.

HTC Sensation processor tweaked to hit 1.5GHz

The HTC Sensation, which some have called it the Pyramid, looks set to flex its processing muscles all the more – through a tweak inside that will see an increase in its processor speed, albeit slightly. A Class II Permissive Change notice that was approved by the FCC will see another 300MHz added to the current 1.2GHz figure, and when that happens, the HTC Sensation will be one of the handful of dual-core 1.5GHz smartphones which are in the market. Apart from that, the HTC Sensation will also be on the receiving end of a larger battery so that you can keep yourself entertained and occupied for longer than ever before.

Cardiac patches rely on gold nanowires to keep patients alive

You can never quite tell when a heart attack is going to happen – there rarely are any symptoms available, although you can definitely do your part in minimizing the risk by eating right, sleeping well, managing your stress and getting enough exercise. For those who have experienced heart attacks, chances are they'd do anything to recover from the ordeal well – and perhaps a team of researchers at MIT and the Children's Hospital Boston has crafted a new method to increase the chances of post-heart attack survival.
