BlackBerry loses $84M despite increased shipments, revenues

BlackBerry reported the financial results for the quarter that ends June 1 and there's some good news and some bad news. The company saw an uptick the two previous quarters, but this quarter ended with an operating loss of $84 million. On the positive side, revenue was up to $3.1 billion, 15% higher than the previous quarter and 9% more than the year ago quarter. Shipments were up too – BlackBerry shipped 6.8 million devices, up from 6 million in the previous quarter.

iPhone 5 owners on a number of online forums are claiming that 14.2 carrier update for T-Mobile and AT&T iPhone 5 has been rolled out today. As yet there as been no confirmation from either carrier that it has started rolling out this update. Google announced today that it is launching a new pilot program in a bid to make Google Maps “the very best map of the world.” This program will enable third-party organizations to borrow Google's Street View Trekker through which they will be able to contribute imagery to Google Maps. The Trekker is able to capture 360-degree photos, so organizations will be able to use them to contribute imagery about the places they know best, whereby helping Google in making Maps more comprehensive.

A video game featuring everyone's favorite completely psychotic comic book character, Deadpool, was announced last summer. One year later, the game was released this week for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, both in traditional retail boxes as well as digital downloads for $49.99. But an error on Sony's part accidentally listed the digital download version of the game for $59.99 on its PlayStation Network. As a result, Sony has said they will reimburse those PlayStation Network users who purchased Deadpool for the inflated price of $59.99 by giving them $10 in credit.

Cody Loveland's Corvette-powered NSX claimed by Pikes Peak

Let there be no doubt – racing automobiles can be very dangerous. This unfortunate fact of life has been proven once again today by Cody Loveland, owner of LoveFab, who crashed his Corvette-powered tube-frame Acura NSX on the second turn of the Pikes Peak hill climb course, apparently after a rear upper control arm failed. Cody hit a wall of boulders at high speed, after which the racecar caught fire. Cody was able to escape the blaze unhurt – minus some missing hair that was singed off in the fire – but the car appears to be a complete mess, as you can see from the image above.
