Google might give away 100GB of free cloud storage to Chromebook buyers

. Consumers who bought one of Google's (GOOG) browser-based Chromebook computers may soon be getting 100GB of free cloud storage through Google Drive. A man by the name of François Beaufort recently discovered a piece of code in the Chromium source that states "Get 100 GB free with Google Drive,” according to Chrome Story. Google normally charges $4.99 per month for the 100GB option, so the Mountain View-based company's generosity will allow Chromebook owners to save almost $60 a year.

China's new liquid oxygen and kerosene-fueled rocket engine lights up for testing

Liquid oxygen and kerosene, that's what fuels China's new - and freshly tested - rocket engine. When fired up on Sunday, it withstood temperatures as high as 5,432 degrees Fahrenheit (3,000 degrees Celsius) for 200 seconds and powered through almost 20,000 revolutions per minute in a rotational test. "The successful tests confirm the reliability of China's LOX / kerosene engine," test commander Lai Daichu told China Daily.

JAVOedge New iPad / iPad 2 Paisley Flex Sleeve Case Review

JAVOedge New iPad / iPad 2 Paisley Flex Sleeve Case Review

Lately, I've gone for a more minimal approach with cases and covers for my iPad.  I even tried using it completely caseless for a while, but I finally went back to the snap-on back cover after I dropped my iPad.  I still haven't added back the Smart Cover, but I wanted something to protect the screen while the iPad was in my purse.  I stumbled upon the New iPad/iPad 2 Flex Sleeve Case from JAVOedge that looked like exactly what I wanted.  It was a sleeve case with a bonus, because it could fold up into a stand when I wanted one.  JAVOedge was kind enough to send a sample to The Gadgeteer for review. .

2012 Ford Focus 1.0-liter EcoBoost

2012 Ford Focus 1.0-liter EcoBoost

A Sneak Peek At Our Three-Cylinder Future. Remember the good old days, when compact cars were powered by six-cylinder engines. Yeah, neither do we.
It's been a long time since a mainstream brand offered anything other than a four-banger in its econoboxes, and for good reason. While a half-dozen cylinders might have been necessary to adequately motivate Ford Falcon, Dodge Dart and later Chevrolet Cavalier models, any carmaker will tell you that modern four cylinders make more than enough power to propel even today's jumbo-sized compacts.

But wait just a minute. What did we say? More than enough power.

Apple sold 250 million iPhones to date

Apple sold 250 million iPhones to date

It took Apple just 5 years to move a whopping 250 million iPhones around the world, clearly happy that they are residing in the pockets of many people in the streets regardless of age, religion, culture or creed – instead of languishing on the store shelves like other devices from various manufacturers. This is no mean feat, considering how Apple never really had any experience with the smartphone market in the first place.

Google Nexus 7 overclocked with custom kernel

. Asus is the manufacturer of the highly sought after Google Nexus 7 tablet, where it already comes with a rather zippy NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, although it must be noted that this particular version of the Tegra 3 comes with just a clock speed of 1.2GHz, which is clearly slower that other tablets that feature the faster 1.6GHz clock speed. Well, there is nothing quite like fixing things yourself, which is why the introduction of a custom kernel to the Google Nexus 7 would result in it zipping along rather nicely at 1.6GHz.

Are you the 2013 Lexus LS?

Lexus is poised to whip the sheets off of the newest interpretation of its LS line in San Francisco next week, but a Chinese website is claiming to have an early peek at the machine. The site showed off two images detailing the majority of the exterior changes, including a new spindle grille and bizarre headlamp arrays with what looks to be three projector lenses per side. Word has it what we see here is the new LS 460 F Sport, complete with more aggressive bodywork.

Is there anything this tool from MIT's Ilan Moyer and collaborator Nadya Peek can't do. Probably, but that list seems likely to be shorter than the list of those it can. So far, Popfab has been shown doing a little printing during a brief video, but Moyer has promised a lot more to come, telling Core 77, "we also have toolheads working for vinyl cutting, milling and drawing," all of which promise to show up in subsequent episodes.

The numbers for Samsung's Q2 2012 earnings period are in and it was another big one, with the electronics giant reporting an operating profit of $5.9 billion, driven largely by growth in its smartphone business - just as it predicted. That's up 79 percent from the same period last year, with the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note specifically mentioned as having contributed to both high sales and higher average selling prices. The company doesn't break out exact selling figures in its earnings reports, however that business unit contributed $3.65 billion in profit to the bottom line.

Malware invades Apple's App Store for iOS, only harasses Windows users

Windows users can't catch a break with viruses, even when they're getting software for their Apple device. An app called “Instaquotes Quotes Cards for Instagram” was found to contain a worm called “Worm.VB-900,” which isn't a threat to iOS itself or any other MacOS platform. However, users who tend to their apps with a Windows machine are susceptible to the baddie — also known affectionately as Mal/CoiDung-A. Any antimalware should detect it since it's been up to no good since 2009, but Cupertino has already pulled the app and the vendor is working on a virus-free version.

Energizer Edge Small Accent Light Review

Energizer Edge Small Accent Light Review

I live in an old house – so old that all the rooms have overhead fixtures, even the living room.  Sometimes the overhead light is a bit too harsh, and I'd like something a bit more atmospheric.  I have some lamps sitting around, but they've usually been chosen to provide task lighting and can be overly bright.  I like the look of candles, but I don't like having open flames sitting around my house.  I'm basically out of luck when I'd like just a nice, dim, warm light for a cozy ambiance or when I'd just like to have a night light so I don't have to return home to a dark house.  I was very interested when I heard about EnergizerR

VIA makes its first ARM-based Pico-ITX board, adds dual graphics for your in-car pleasure

VIA has only ever really had a dalliance with ARM; the VAB-800 might be a sign that it's willing to go steady for a while. As the company's first Pico-ITX board with an ARM chip, the 800 stuffs up to a 1GHz, Freescale-made ARM Cortex-A8 and 1GB of RAM into a tiny, 3.9 x 2.8-inch board. Somehow, it still fits up to four USB 2.0 ports, mini HDMI, VGA and as much as 64GB of storage. The board's real tricks are its dual integrated graphics processors: the VAB-800 can independently steer two displays, just in case your in-car infotainment system can't be contained by merely one screen.
