The NEC MEDIAS ES N-05D will be released in the Japanese market via NTT DoCoMo network in March 2012. Measuring at only 6.7mm thin, the smartphone features a 4.3-inch (720 x 1280) display, a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8260 processor, a 1GB of RAM, a 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot and the Google Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread OS. Other important specs include an 8.1-megapixel CMOS camera with NEC's Exmor R for mobile engine, a 1,400mAh battery, NFC, a digital TV tuner, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Facebook extends online display ads lead over Yahoo

In a matter of days ahead of an initial public offering, Facebook announced that their lead in the online display advertising market has jumped, growing to 27.9% for 2011, which is nearly 8% more compared to 21% just a year back – at least, according to new data which was released by research firm comScore Inc. This means Facebook is pulling even further away from their closest competitor, Yahoo Inc., who holds 11% of the display-ad market at the moment, growing ever so slightly from 10.9% in 2010. Even further behind the pack would be Microsoft Corp. and Google Inc., where they have just less than 5% each.

Mazda is recalling has issued a recall of the 2001- and 2002-model-year Mazda Tribute crossover for a possible brake fluid leak. It's been found that fluid leaking from the reservoir cap on the master cylinder might come into contact with the ABS wiring harness connector, leading to potential corrosion and/or fire. We've been waiting on this action for the better part of a month, as its mechanical twin, the Ford Escape, was the subject of a similar NHTSA recall announced on January 11.

The Daily posts a preview that Microsoft is testing its Kinect system on various prototype Windows 8 laptops. Kinect's cameras will be placed above the laptop's screen, where a small webcam is usually located, while rows of LED will line up at the bottom part of the screen. Apart from being tempted to play Dance Central 2 in front of a laptop, adding Kinect sensors into laptops can also be used to navigate through Windows 8's Metro UI, just like how Xbox users browse the console's Metro-like interface.

General Motors has launched an advertising campaign touting the safety of the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in electric vehicle, just as its CEO testified to Congress that a recent Volt fire that took place after a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash test would never occur under real-world circumstances, Bloomberg has reported. GM CEO Dan Akerson (pictured) said in the campaign that he "couldn't be prouder" of the technology the company uses to produce the Volt, the wire service noted. Nissan Note gets minor upgrades for 2012

For 2012, the funky little Nissan Note is getting some upgrading for its top two trims, the oddly named Acenta and N-TEC+, while the Note lineup itself is getting some downsizing. Outside, the Acenta sits on 16-inch wheels now and gets "chrome-effect" caps on the side-view mirrors and around the front fog lights. Inside, items like climate control and automatic headlights are standard, as is a blue cross-stitching on the seats for "a more premium feel.". Above that, in the UK, the new N-TEC+ trim is now the top-of-the-line model, as the former top-tier Tekna is going away.

Samsung U380 dummy units arrive at Verizon stores, launch is near

The Samsung U380, which we hope will get a more inspired name, is about to hit the streets. This is probably not a smartphone, but it does come with a touchscreen and side-sliding QWERTY combo, so may appeal to the text-addicted among you who don't need a smartphone (or don't want to pay for the necessary data plans). The U380 should also be very cheap (even free on contract from day one, if you ask us) in order to have any chance at selling well. We first saw the Samsung U380 in December when it went through the FCC's testing, and today dummy units of the device have started appearing at Verizon stores.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is already available almost everywhere in Canada. That said, if your carrier of choice is Mobilicity, you simply can't get one subsidized. At least not yet. Earlier this month, we have heard that the Galaxy Nexus was headed to Mobilicity too. At that point though the only detail about the when was the very vague “coming soon”. That's no longer the case.

As seen above, the carrier has let us know via Twitter that the newest Nexus device will be in its stores on February 6. The bad news is that we're still left guessing price points.

HP announced that they would make webOS open source by the time fall 2012 rolls around, which is not something that the tech industry envisioned. After all, most folks thought that HP would have taken the more “normal” route of selling the operating system, or at least, send it back to the drawing board if they intend to pursue this course. We are pleased to say that Enyo 2.0 was released today, and the Enyo logo that you see here is HP's app framework for webOS.

Nokia sends out MWC invites

We all know that Nokia will be making a return to MWC after a 3-year long hiatus and today, the Finnish mobile giant started sending out invitations to a press conference on the opening day - February 27th. Since companies usually hold press events to announce a new product or service, we're pretty sure it's going to be the unveiling of a new Windows Phone device. Perhaps the previously rumored Lumia 910. We can't be too sure, since the invitation is devoid of clues as well.
