Beats by Dr. Dre Studio headphones get colorful for the holidays

Thinking of picking up a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre headphones this holiday season. Well, we've got some good news for you. The company has announced the launch of the new Beats by Dr. Dre Studio Color headphones. These are basically the same Studio headphones you already know just that they will be available in a spectrum of candy colors to suit your taste and personality. This is not the first time the Beats Studio headphones have been given limited edition colors, but I guess there's always an excuse to splash new colors onto something.

Check out the new commercial for the Studio Color headphones after the break.

Phottix Flash Triggers, Now Available for Sony Alpha

Phottix Flash Triggers, Now Available for Sony Alpha

At last, Sony users can get in on the wireless flash-triggering game. That Sony Alpha camera seemed like a good idea when you bought it, but then you discovered that you entered a world of Memory Sticks and weirdly-sized flash hotshoes. We can't help you with the first (although at least you have an alternative SD/CF slot), but Phottix can certainly help with the second, bringing remote off-camera flash triggers to the Sony system. Better still, they're at the less expensive end of flash-triggering gear.

The Phottix Strato II consists of two parts.

Sonos Controler for Android gets an update

Sonos System Software 3.6 has just been launched and it is accompanied by an updated Android app: Sonos Controller for Android supports Android tablets and smartphones. Many devices are supported, but Sonos has mentioned the following hardware: the Kindle Fire, HTC Flyer, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab and Sony Tablet S. Besides that, Sonos now works with Slacker Radio – at least in the USA and Canada. If you don't know Slacker, it is a popular (and free) Internet radio service.

Lenovo LePhone K2 to arrive with 4.3-inch IPS display, 1.5GHz dual-core chip

Frankly speaking, the phones that Lenovo have announced so far this week haven't been all that exciting (unless, of course, you're somehow aroused by its 5-inch tabletphone), but it turned out the folks had a little surprise for us: the LePhone K2. What we got here is a 4.3-inch IPS display (resolution of which not yet announced), a powerful dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8260 chip, 1GB RAM, 1GB ROM and an eight megapixel 1080p camera.

Nikon launches $550 Speedlight SB-910 flash: light-up controls and thermal cut-out protection

You know what $549.95 gets you in the camera world. About 90 percent of a T3i. Or, you know, a flash. Nikon has just outed the proper successor to the Speedlight SB-900 (pictured), and at over half a grand, it best be packin' more than just bright lights. The Speedlight SB-910 touts an enhanced operating system and graphic user interface, and comes equipped with a wide zoom range as well as FX / DX-format identification that optimizes zoom settings based on the camera body.

Still tempted by the fruit of another. If you're looking Microsoft's way, but aren't quite ready to toss your adoration for iOS or Android aside, the coders in Redmond are giving you an alternative to quitting cold turkey. By visiting http://aka.ms/wpdemo on one's iOS or Android browser, you'll be immediately tunneled into a emulation of Windows Phone 7. We gave it a test run here at Engadget HQ, and it seems that every tile and swipe save for Apps runs properly. Can't say the fonts and such looked as smooth on our Galaxy S II as they do on the Radar, but it's a solid effort that'll definitely serve you well if you're considering the switch.

CyanogenMod 7 Makes its Way to the Amazon Kindle Fire

CyanogenMod 7 Makes its Way to the Amazon Kindle Fire

Now that the Amazon Kindle Fire has been rooted it’s time to start booting up some custom ROMs. Standard choice CyanogenMod has made its Amazon debut, as xda member JackpotClavin has the first shots of CM7 running on the new media slate. All is not cherry, though. While many features seem to be working properly (including WiFi), touchscreen input problems are slowing the roll of those working feverishly to get a working build out to the public.

Researchers expose printer vulnerability, turn LaserJets into literal time bombs

Your precious printer might seem innocuous but, in reality, it could be a ticking time bomb just waiting for some hacker to trigger it. Oh, and we mean that not just figuratively, but literally as well - they could actually be caused to burst into flames by some ne'er-do-well half-way around the globe. Of course, the potential doesn't end and remote arson, an attacker could easily gain access to a network or steal documents, and hijacking the lowly device would require little more than printing an infected file.

Crypteks: Encrypted, Combo-Locked USB Stick For the Seriously Paranoid

The Crypteks USB stick was inspired by Dan Brown's well-written book, The Da Vinci Code. If you need an 8GB USB stick that is both hardware encrypted and physically locked then you probably have a secret worth paying $130 to protect. If this is the case, I suggest you either confess your porn habit (really — you'll feel a lot better) or buy the Crypteks USB.
Don't believe me? Then listen to the pitch from honey-voiced Crypteks boss Fahad Koumaiha, who could easily make an alternative living reading bedtime stories.

Gumby-like robot moves around in style

Gumby-like robot moves around in style

We would have thought of robots to be hard and unyielding, but here is an interesting “soft” robot that was inspired by squid and starfish – allowing it to crawl, undulate, and even squeeze under obstacles. A team over at Harvard University has come up with this particular robot, allowing it to gain several advantages over other kinds of robots that have treads, wheels and rigid parts. Inspired by creatures under the sea, it was specially manufactured using soft materials, where its motion is driven by compressed air. The pneumatically-driven robot was constructed using flexible materials called “elastomers”.

These days, even a truck gets aerodynamics for the lulz... I mean, better fuel economy

Every time you drive by a semi and feel your car get pushed away from the rig, it reinforces the reality that tractor trailers punch a big, ragged hole in the atmosphere. It takes a lot of power to force those big boxes through the wind, and Mercedes Benz is working to please both fleet operators and the environmentally conscious by taking some of these heavy haulers for a spin in the wind tunnel for a much-needed aerodynamic tuneup.

There is nothing quite like having a decent dinner – or even to celebrate a special moment in your life with a loved one right opposite you, but you still ought to be careful on your part as well. After all, there is cause for real concern that you do not fall victim to restaurant credit card fraud, and with the hectic holiday season being upon us, the likelihood of something like this happening is very real, so it pays to be more careful. If you as an establishment owner wants to avoid such misunderstandings from happening, then you too, can do your part with E la Carte's ‘Presto' tablet.

CalypsoCase for iPhone 4x4S Review

. If you are the proud owner of an iPhone 4 or the newer - and cooler - iPhone 4S, you either have figured out that you need or want a protective case or have made the conscience decision that cases are clumsy, intrusive, ugly or all three and therefore, not for you. Well, what if we could remove one of those obstacles to you using a case. Let's face it; as beautiful as the iPhone is, it is made of glass and it's slippery. Guess what happens to glass when it's dropped?  Right, and a cracked iPhone is far uglier than any protective case. Which brings us to the CalypsoCase from CalypsoCrystal.

You were so happy with that 1080p projection spread across your garage wall. But then you got up to fetch a beer and noticed horrible fingernail-sized pixels all over Johnny Depp's mustache. The illusion promptly shattered and you realized it was time for an upgrade. An £18,000 ($28,000) upgrade, no less, which will render your Blu-rays bearable again by upscaling them to four times the resolution of Full HD and blasting them out at 2,000 lumens.

South Korea To Test Robot Prison Guards

South Korea To Test Robot Prison Guards

South Korea's Ministry of Justice has announced that it is testing robot guards in prisons. The one-month trial will be conducted at a prison in the city of Pohang, located southeast of capital Seoul, starting March 2012. The project is expected to cost one billion won (about $863,000). The robot guards are designed to patrol prison corridors and monitor conditions inside the cells. If the robots detect signs of sudden or unusual activity, they alert the human guards.

Eclipse DECT phone looks stunning

Eclipse DECT phone looks stunning

Sebastien Sauvage is the designer behind the Eclipse DECT phone, where the moment you lay your eyes on it, it does resemble a piece of decorative art. Of course, upon realization that this is a gadget, that does not mean you are able to use it right away as there is still a certain degree of learning curve for you to study. Sleekly produced, this is actually a regular phone with a base unit and handset which have been embedded together, all crammed into a shape that is different as well as unusual, enough to make it one futuristic piece that would not look out of place in the Jetsons' living room.

Samsung GT-S7500 caught in the wild

While Samsung is known for its hard hitting devices like the Galaxy S2, the company also pushes out devices for the mid-range market, and it looks like it has a new one in the works. Mr. Blurrycam managed to snap some photographs of a new Samsung device with the model number GT-S7500 (as evident by the photograph). Not many details about the phone were released, but it does look like a smaller version of the Galaxy S with a smaller and lower res screen, and a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash. No word on whether the GT-S7500 will be the phone's final name or if it will be given the Galaxy branding as well.

Samsung's Killing Those Good Little Machines: Netbooks!

The Korean giant plans to fill that void with the company's ultra-portable offerings which include notebooks of 11.6" and 12-inch displays and ultra-sleek form factor. This apparently means that Samsung won't produce any devices with around 10" displays but tablets. Netbooks are devices which usually have a 10″ display with a small low-power processor and most often without an optical drive.

Researchers put smartphones on a power diet, drastically improve battery life

Nokia's Asha handsets already use browser compression to reduce data costs and power consumption for customers in the developing world, but the company's Finnish neighbours over at Aalto University have taken a totally different approach. By using a network proxy to squash traffic into bursts rather than a constant bit rate, and by forcing a smartphone's modem into idle mode between each burst, the researchers claim they can cut 3G power consumption by 74 percent.
