NTT Docomo, the biggest mobile carrier in Japan, has managed to successfully develop a real-time Japanese to English (and vice versa, of course) translation service for smartphones and feature phones in that part of the world. How does this translation service work. Well, you speak something into your device and wait for a voice interpretation of what you have just spoken to be played back – in a different language, of course. The cloud is where all the translating action takes place, so you can forget about it replacing a human interpreter if speed is of the essence, but at least it works to a certain, decent extent.
