Mini announces thoroughly modern engines and chassis for 2014 Cooper

The 2014 Cooper will come with a three-cylinder engine and the Cooper S will get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, both with Mini's TwinPower turbochargers. The next Cooper, which will be officially unveiled at the Oxford factory in November and then at the Los Angeles Auto Show a couple of days later, will come with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine for the base model, and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder for the Cooper S. The base engine produces 134 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, the plateau of which is reached at just 1,250 rpm. An overboost function allows up to 170 lb-ft for short bursts.
